Surabaya (18 April 2023) – The government has restricted the operational activities of goods transportation on roads ahead of Eid al-Fitr, which is predicted to have an impact on a surge in container buildup at ports. As an effort to anticipate spikes in container buildup, Surabaya Container Terminal (TPS) has coordinated both internally and externally and determined alternative strategic solutions.

Included in the solution strategy is ensuring the performance of equipment readiness with more incentive maintenance for loading and unloading equipment at TPS from the usual routine maintenance schedule, both Container Crane (CC), Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG), head trucks and other loading and unloading equipment, adjusting slots storage yards by preparing temporary container storage blocks, especially for imported containers which are expected to occur due to the implementation of restrictions on goods transportation operations.

Wahyu Widodo, the Main Director of TPS said that during the Eid holidays TPS continues to optimize its operational activities as a prime service strategy while still paying attention to the opportunity to carry out worship

"This year we ensure that operations are safely under control, services are only off on the first day of Eid to give our operational friends the opportunity to worship," said the man who is familiarly called Wewe.

TPS predicts that the trend for the flow of containers, which are mostly filled with consumer goods, will increase in line with the increase in basic needs and market demand, given the improving economic growth amid global economic uncertainty.

This can be seen in the increase in container flow compared to last month which increased by 16.68%. The flow of containers in February 2023 was recorded at 101,090 TEUs, while the flows of containers in March 2023 were 123,720 TEUs.

The increase in international container flows also occurred at TPS. The trend of international container flows as of March 2022 was recorded at 311,260 TEUs, an increase of 0.13% compared to the same period in the previous year, namely 311,660 TEUs.

Wahyu also said that ahead of Eid it is predicted that the commodities transported using reefer containers will increase, considering that many staple commodities use refrigerated containers, especially during week 22-23 (09 April 2023 - 22 April 2023).

"Anticipating the increase in the number of reefer plug needs at TPS, we have provided 1,448 units of reefer plugs, so we make sure they are safe," said Wahyu.

In addition, TPS is currently implementing the Single Truck Identification Data (STID) which has been socialized to trucking entrepreneurs on Monday (17/4), according to the mandate from the Surabaya Tanjung Perak Port Authority, which will take effect from 02 May 2023. This is done to ensure the safety of container delivery on trucking.

STID is a follow-up to the implementation of the National Logistic Ecosystem (NLE) Program. NLE is a logistics ecosystem that harmonizes the flow of international goods and document traffic from the arrival of the means of transport until the goods arrive at the warehouse. NLE is oriented towards cooperation between government and private agencies, through data exchange, process simplification, elimination of repetition and duplication.

One of the NLE programs is the Application of STID. Where STID is an electronic data collection system for each truck operating at the Port of Tanjung Perak in Surabaya to support the Truck Booking System and Terminal Operating System. This program is very useful for security, not only for the goods being delivered, but also for the security of Port transport truck drivers in carrying out their duties and functions.

Previously, container trucks at TPS used the BAT Number as the Truck Identification Data (TID) which carried out operations at TPS, where the implementation was only at TPS, because each terminal issued its own TID. However, by implementing a mandatory STID for all terminals, especially in the Tanjung Perak Port area, of course it will make it easier for customers, so that one STID is enough, so they can use it at all terminals in the Tanjung Perak Port area.

TPS as a container terminal operator in Indonesia under the Subholding of Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP) consistently improves the performance of container loading and unloading both in terms of quality improvement through the operation of adequate loading and unloading equipment and developing infrastructure in operational areas.
